Water Management
Along the Seine River, three dams are directly associated with a generation station: Valerie Falls Dam, Calm Lake Dam and Sturgeon Falls Dam. Three other dams control water bodies used as upstream reservoirs: Lac des Mille Lacs dam, Marmion Sluiceway and Raft Lake Dam.
Valerie Falls Dam, Lac des Mille Lacs Dam and the Marmion Sluiceway are operated by Evolugen. Information on the other dams can be found at First Light.
A Water Management Plan is in place and outlines the preferred management option for each dam, supporting sustainable developement of water resources for waterpower and other uses while protection and enhancing the natural ecosystems.
Dams
The power dams on the Seine River have modest storage capacity. Water levels controlled by these dams are typically held close to full supply, because of this, the ability to store water in the headponds, beyond a few days, is limited. The dam operators use the upstream reservoirs to try to produce even flows throughout the year in order to deliver adequate water supply to the headponds for power production purposes and other uses.
